About This Piece

In this piece, I explore the eternal tension between the rigid frameworks of our world and the fluid, untameable nature of the individual spirit. It is a visual study of how we find vibrancy and movement within the “boxes” we inhabit.

The core of this work lies in the geometric grid, a structure that represents the systems—digital, social, and architectural—that define modern existence. By confining organic, almost liquid forms within these strict boundaries, I aim to show that life does not just exist within structure; it thrives there, creating a collective energy that is far greater than the sum of its parts.

The Artist



Uma Gokhale is a mixed media artist exploring nature, memory, and human emotion. My work blends bold color, modern minimalism, and expressive storytelling as it explores identity and the emotional layers of everyday life.

Born in the United States and spending my early childhood there, I was surrounded by a culture of individuality and self-expression. Later moving to the colorful and culturally rich landscapes of India, I absorbed its intricate patterns, vivid hues, and tropical beauty. This unique cross-cultural journey shapes my distinctive style—an uplifting fusion of bold colors, tropical motifs, and modern minimalism using a unique blend of handmade drawings & graphic art.

I am an internationally licensed artist, with designs featured in global retail and lifestyle brands including Anthropologie, Target, John Lewis, and more.
