5 Skills No One Can Do Without
Here are 5 skills I think everyone needs to be happy at work and in their personal lives.
1. How to be alone
“Never be a afraid to be alone because being alone helps you discover who you are and teaches you how to stop looking outside yourself for your worth.”
Sooner or later there WILL be a time when you’ll need to be able to just be by yourself. Believe me, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Sometimes you are so caught up with the things you gotta do everyday that it’s difficult to just not do anything and spend time in solitude. It can however be a great way to relax, analyze & prioritize things.
2. How to take a compliment
“Deflecting someone who compliments you, is not modest, it’s insulting.”
– Robin Abrahams, Writer for The Boston Globe
3. How to keep a conversation going
“The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.”
4. How to ask for feedback
“Feedback when given well should not alienate the receiver but should motivate them to perform better.”
– M.O., manager, Fortune 500 company
So it’s important to ask for feedback and even more important to receive it with an open mind.
5. How to remember names
“When you recall a person’s name, you send him the message that he matters.”
– Ron white, two-time winner of the US memory championship
Isn’t it shocking that people find it rude if you don’t remember their names? haha. That was me trying sarcasm. Of course, it’s rude. And you can’t just get away with it by saying you have a bad memory.
